I've worked in the wireless industry for years and am very familiar with a wide range of current and emerging technologies. The Nokia Asha 311 is a surprisingly good phone at an amazingly low price. I am very pleased with it. Compact, reliable and easy to use for both calls and messaging.

To understand why the Asha line isn't found among North American GSM carriers however, one must first understand that North American network success is measured by profitability first and THEN innovation. Nokia has reversed that equation in two ways: (1) By compressing high speed data through their own servers, one can take full advantage of the internet without a required high-cost smartphone data plan and (2) The Asha is LOADED with features and apps found on phones 3-4 times its price. In other words, the Nokia Asha 311 is not economically advantageous to any carrier that would prefer seeing its customers shackled into a 2 year service contract with an expensive smartphone data plan. Not surprisingly, the Asha line is VERY popular in countries outside the US. Indeed, more than 26 million Asha phones have been sold on the global market.

With the Nokia Asha 311, one can use a low-cost feature phone data plan and have full access to Facebook, Googletalk, Twitter, Nokia Maps, Weather Channel, WhatsApp, etc, and still save 3/4 of what you would spend for the same thing otherwise. For example, with the Nokia browser one can easily access email and YouTube. US GSM carriers have rendered this next to impossible on their feature phones. One would assume that with all the Asha features, battery strength would be an issue? Not at all. One can easily go several days between charges, even with regular use. Amazing.

Bear in mind, the Asha 311 is NOT a 4G LTE smartphone. However, it IS one of the best 3.5G feature phones available at any price. Perfect for everyday use or international travel, no other phone at this price range offers you a capacitive touch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass, 3.5 megapixel camera with video, built-in WiFi, VoIP, expandable memory up to 32GB, multiple languages, FM stereo radio, internet radio and even Angry Birds. Buy it, you won't regret it.

I love this phone. I bought it for my wife and now I want one myself. There are some pros and cons to the phone and I'll list them in order of importance to me.

PROS:
Unlocked! I can use it anywhere and with anyone
Great call quality
Gorilla Glass screen
Easy texting interface (there are reviews out there that claim it only has a keypad in portrait but you can change it to qwerty in the settings)
Easy to use (you can pick up this phone and pretty much know how to use it in about 30 seconds)
Battery life
Physical Call and End keys
Proximity sensor turns the screen off so you don't hang up with your cheek

CONS:
Screen size (it's small but it fits everything in there tho)
No flash on camera (for this price I can't complain but it is what it is)

Summary: Buy this phone! It does everything you need and looks great doing it. It's not a "Smart Phone" but it does everything one does. If you want tons of pointless apps then this isn't the phone for you. If you want a reliable, portable, sexy and usable device then pick this one up and you won't be disappointed.

This is a great very basic smart phone. The phone quality is very good. I live in a remote area and receive good reception.

What more can I do with it (compared to iPhone or Android):

1. Navigate anytime with a fantastic GPS module and free life time navigation (including turn by turn voice navigation with street names, lane guidance, speed limit warning, traffic etc.!!). Go buy crap GPS software for iPhone for a huge price (last time checked was more than 50$) and even then that won't even come close to Nokia navigation. Don't forget Nokia owns Navteq (the worlds largest map producer)
2. Transmit FM and play it on your car music system (iPhone doesn't even have a FM receiver)
3. The best camera (those of u who read the misleading review of endgadget, if u r really reading my review, then u r serious and go ahead to search on google to find zillions of unbiased camera review, comparing N8 even against DSLR)
4. Pentaband network support, which would let you use the phone with both AT&T and T-Mobile 3g network!!
5. Dolby surround sound output
6. USB on the go (which means you could connect your USB device with the phone!)
7. Bluetooth 3.0
8. The only OS that has a very complete bluetooth stack implementation (perhaps too technical for some of the readers) that allows u to even control ur powerpoint presentation with ur cellphone (using salling clicker). The poor iPhone guys, no ur phone doesn't have that functionality (crippled at OS level)
9. The OS that gives superb battery life (anyone using Symbian would testify for this)
10. The freedom that comes with an open OS (OK, Android is also open)
11. The most configurable and complete enterprise wireless stack (trust me, I never ever had any problem to configure my Nokia phones for the most convoluted enterprise wireless network!)
12. A built in completely integrated VOIP support. You won't even notice that u r using VOIP. And trust me, if u know how to use VOIP effectively, u could save a huge amount on your phone bill
13. The ability to work as Bluetooth HSPA modem (or even create Wifi hotspot with third party software)
14. The TRUE TRUE TRUE multi tasking. Yes that's three TRUEs. No one else (including the upcoming Windows Phone 7) supports true multi-tasking. If u ever use Symbian multitasking, u would hate to use others' sham multitasking
15. Many many ... can't list. Feeling tired :( Users are welcome to comment and add additional pros and cons. I am sure there will be Nokia fanboys and iPhone and Android fanboys.

What can't I do (or can't do so well):

1. The UI (yes iPhone and Android have better intuitive UI)
2. I can't fart with my mobile (but I do have all the apps that I would ever need: e.g. call screening software, office software, pdf reader, flash support, email solution, the entire Oxford, cambridge or a host of other dictionaries etc.)
3. Zillions of games that you may avail on iPhone, u may not have on Nokia yet (believe me it's changing fast). BTW, N8 has a faster GPU than iPhone4!

Now some misleading media propaganda:

1. N8 has only 680 MHz processor: Believe me Symbian is by born very efficient. If u ever own a Mac and try to run a Windows 7 in a virtual machine then u know how slow it is. Processor doesn't define speed. I started with a 233MHz pentium processor with 32MB RAM which ran Windows 98 extremely fast with all Office applications, a bunch of productivity apps and a host of games. To give a recent example look at Windows Vista, which runs very slow on the same computer compared to Windows 7 or Mac OS X!
2. N8 has only 256MB RAM: Again u don't need that much RAM. The Symbian^3 has "Writable data paging" which works like virtual memory. And don't forget, Symbian is built from ground up to be battery, memory and processor efficient. No other OS (including Android) claims that feat.

So, in conclusion, if u r looking for a very modern looking user interface, go for iPhone (or Android). But if u r like me who shops for functionality (and who dreams to carry only one gadget (no GPS, no camera, no Apple remote etc.)) then surely u should give N8 a serious thought. And don't let naysayers fool u with usability issues. Believe me, with just couple of days of use, every unintuitive UI would become intuitive (I am a Symbian veteran and it feels very intuitive to me).

Hello this review has been updated and lowered in rating. We have 2 N8s and both of them froze and died. This is a problem for many people and I would not recommend this phone until Nokia fixes this issue.

Here are my pros and cons about this phone. I have owned a lot of top smartphones, so I figured I would highlight what I find excels and what lags current crop. Overall it is a very good phone.

Pros:
Camera - The camera is pretty much perfect. You can tell they put a lot of time into it because the software works well and the pictures are great. There simply is no better camera out there on a phone.

Construction - This is a very attractive, and study phone. I have no doubt it will last a long time, it is very nicely engineered

Battery Life - Battery lasts longer than any other smartphone I have used.

Memory- People criticise the lack of ram, but I have not run out of ram ever, and actually having more ram wastes battery.

Radios - Pentaband phone, not very common. This will work everywhere on earth pretty much.

Navigation - Free, no data connection needed and works very well. GPS works better than any other phone I have used. Syncs fast and works even without view of sky.

Sports Tracker - It is awesome!

OMAP processor - Do not listen to MHZ junkies, this processor is very nice because it handles

Connectivity - This phone is the first one I have ever had that switches between Wifi, 3G etc seemlessly and shuts off data when phone not in use. Very well done.

HDMI out/video - works well and default player plays nearly any format you throw at it. even MKV files.

Cons
Web Browser - After using the maemo browser on n900 I realize how good mobile browsing should be. The default browser sucks bad. I know they are coming out with update, but that is no excuse, should ship with good browser

On screen keyboard - It is terrible, Opera mini did it right on N8 why can nokia not do it.

Screen - The resolution is relatively low for modern smart phones. It looks very nice, but when you view pages zoomed out text is garbled due to lack of resolution. I have pretty good vision so I like to read tiny text rather than zoom in.

UI - Symbian is a perfectly fine OS, but the UI is inconsistent. Some areas you hit enter to have setting go, some you have to hit check then ok, some menus go away when you touch shaded part etc. Nothing is consistent.

I do actually have this phone (ordered it from NokiaUSA and got it on time since im close by IN).

This phone is for the Symbian lover wanting a new experience, unlike S60 5th edition. And this phone delivers.

Construction and hardware wise, it is perfect (no removable batteries my gripe, but oh well). The camera is fantastic and may even replace your stand alone camera. Feels great in your hands too.

The software..its what S60 5th Edition should have been...the music player, only 1 touch tapping, multitouch are ALL welcome editions. Do not use the ovi maps that come with it, go to beta labs and use OVI maps there...it has multitouch etc. Am thoroughly enjoying it...where they can improve is the web browser and calendar.

Web browser will get an update in Nov from beta labs...will include better multitouch and a brand new look/feel, much like (n900 etc).

All in all, this is what we want, something new but keeping the familiarity.

Good job Nokia..looking forward to your N9

Sorry don't know how to report this product so I'll do it here.
The product description is not correct. For example, it says: "However, it does support MicroSD cards for removable flash memory space if the need arises. It is a smartphone that operates on the Android 2.3.5 operating system".
NO! This uses the WINDOWS PHONE 7.5 operating system and DOES NOT support MicroSD cards.

This is actually an awesome phone (that's why I didn't want to give a 1 star rating, take it as you may) and I'm a WP 7.5 user who really enjoys it but it's important that people buy based on the true information of the product. Please fix this!

I just bought this phone a few weeks ago and it is gorgeous. The screen just blew me away and the OS is very fast and user friendly. This is the first time I try a Windows phone and I have to say that it's been a wonderful experience. From now on I'll just use Windows phone for my daily use. My next gadget will be Nokia Lumia 920. I just can't look foward for this phone to hit the market. Nokia designs the best and most beautiful phones and now they work with the best OS on the market. Well done, Nokia and Microsoft!

Now, let's talk about Apps. I've read many comments of people talking about the ''lack of app'' on the Marketplace. I can tell my own experience. I come from Android and also I had a Apple iPhone 4S and the only App missing on the Marketplace (talking about me and the apps I use the most) are Instagram and OVO (and I've heard Instagram is comming soon to Windows Phones before this year ends). I have Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, MSN, KiK, Viber, Badoo, SkyDrive, Tango, Skype,Youtube,Shazam, SoundHound, Netflix, IMDb, Evernote, ESPN, CNN, Univision,SkyMap, TuneIn Radio, WhatsApp, Wikipedia and Weather much more... Also the Nokia App (Nokia Maps, Drive, City Lens, Music, Trailers, Creative Studio, Counters, Soundtracker, Transit, Contacts Transfer, Camera Extras and much more). The Marketplace keeps growing. The integration of Facebook, twitter, MSN, LinkedIn and Foursquare in my Windows Phone is AMAZING! I can put comments and give ''likes'' directly from my phone due to the AMAZING integretion between those Apps and my phone. and I don't have to go to the Facebook or Twitter App to do that.

I'm totally in love with my Nokia Lumia 900 and its amazing OS! I 100% recommend it! If you wanna be different, switch and go for it! Nokia Lumia phones the amazing experience!

The product is very good and has become a mobile office of a sort for me, within the very short period I own it!

If you need a phone to place calls, receive/send emails and want FB, Twitter, etc, updates in a second, then Windows Phone 7.5 is the OS for you. I forgot to mention that MSN Messenger is available also! All of this without downloading or installing anything! All info is on your main screen tiles so you won't need to enter a specific application to see updates but in case you want full apps, you can download them for free! This combined with the superb quality of Nokia phones is a winner!

I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile, and without doing too much research, ended up with the Lumia 710. I was impressed immediately by how smoothly the phone operated. Opening apps or exploring the phone is quick and easy, and the tiles interface is visually useful and easy to learn. This phone integrated completely with my facebook & twitter accounts and was remarkably efficient. When a contact was duplicated it was easy to merge the data so the same person's name didn't come up multiple times. The phone also used wireless well, and seemed fast on 4g. The camera was fine, it seemed a little blurry at times but I didn't test it much. It was also easy for me to find a flashlight app which is essential for me.

With all those positives, I eventually discovered that the negatives were "deal-breakers" for me, and so I returned the phone and got an android 2.3 phone instead. Here are the negatives for the Lumia 710: The bluetooth is barely functional. It apparently pairs with devices like earpieces without a problem, but I don't use those. I use bluetooth to make quick file transfers between phones and laptops, and Windows phone doesn't support this action at this time. My old Nokia E63 could do this just fine (Symbian OS) so I was kind of baffled that Microsoft dropped the ball here. The Lumia 710 has no expandable storage so I had nowhere to use my little 8gb mini-sd card. While I should have done more careful research, the sales tech at T-Mobile told me it would take my mini-sd card. What he MEANT was that the Lumia 710 used a mini SIM card. I hadn't bought any of my mp3s through the Zune ecosystem so I couldn't get the phone to play my mp3s. While this might have been user error, it certainly wasn't functional enough for me! I managed to get a mp3 on the phone but then couldn't use it as a ring-tone either, which was mildly annoying.

So, in conclusion, the Lumia 710 did lots of stuff well, and my wife ended up getting one. For me though, with it not doing mp3s well and not doing bluetooth well and not having expandable memory meant it just didn't do the stuff I need my cell phone to do. What's worse is that, after seeing how smooth everything runs on Windows phone, my android phone is just clunky. It's a mytouch Q (LG, android 2.3) and it has crashed a couple of times, and opens some apps slowly. I would pick Windows phone every time over android if it would just do everything that people need phones to do!

I got this phone 1 month ago.

Pros: Great feel in the hand. It sure feels different than all the other phones I've ever had. All my friends said that it gives a higher class and comfortable feeling when held in hand.

Very fast when opening applications and doing day to day work. Seriously, you don't need the a billion apps on Applestore. Most apps a person use is probably 20 apps. This phone does everything, Word, PDF, Email, SMS, GPS, Facebook

Why load yourself with other applications that makes your phone so complicated? Less is More. Nokia clearly demonstrated this with this phone.

I switched from using an Android phone (HTC Sensation), and iPhone, I realized that this is the phone I will use from day to day. Make my business calls, emails and etc, instead of having a phone loaded with apps that just slows the phone down.

EXTREMELY LONG BATTERY LIFE!! I WENT TWO DAYS (48 hours) without charging my phone (mobile data turned on in total of 20 - 30 min, wifi off most of the time, other than 10 - 15 min when checking emails. average talk time.. not chatting)

Average charging cycle: 1.5 days / charge

Cons: Camera isn't so great.

I upgraded from a Nokia N95 and couldn't be happier. Feature-wise, the two phones are almost the same, but the performance of the X6 is vastly improved. Sure it's not hard to beat an old phone, but this one leaves me wanting for nothing.
Like all top-end Nokia phones, it has great built-in features: GPS, camera/video, music player, FM radio, wifi, 3g.
Apps load very fast, and the native browser loads really quick too. Wifi reception is great, and the GPS locks on within seconds.
The glass touchscreen is very accurate and easy to use; the display is beautiful. The haptic feedback is a little inconsistent or delayed, but it doesn't distract.
Menu layout is improved too, and once you figure it out, everything is within a tap or two. The Contacts layout on the home screen is hugely useful.
My one complaint is headphone volume is too loud or soft; the controls are not fine enough. That was true on the N95 too.

ya we know the symbain system is old, the hardware is outdated. But this phone does its job! mass storage, good sound quality, good call quality, nice camera. It has almost every upgrade needed from 5800, not to mention the new and better screen. Also, the price is reasonable and you are still contract free! This phone will work several years for sure.

Yes, like somebody else already said the symbiam is old and outdated but still this phone can do things that my iPhone can't. It's small enough and the screen is pretty good, also battery life is great compared again to iPhone. You can use skype over 3G and do wireless tethering with Joikuspot app. I love my iPhone but I also love this X6.

I have had Samsung phones, where the screens are nice, but the plastic bodies come apart all of the time and feel flimsy. I have had iPhones, where the user interface is just so boring, even with all those apps that cost you money.

This phone is great! It's the best phone I've ever owned. I have been a dedicated high end Android user, but I found this phone to be a much more satisfying experience than either the iPhone or the Android phones. I want an OS that will meet my current needs and have a great user interface with a good amount of apps available for me to manage my daily mobile cell phone use, and not have to make expensive phone upgrades all the time. The Nokia Lumia 900 is a very well constructed phone.The aesthetics are pleasing, it's modern and function goes well beyond my expectations. It operates very fast and smooth even though it has a single core processor and only 512MB on RAM. If you are not aware of these specs, you might think it has a multi-core processor and more RAM on board. Nokia has come up with a phone that is both pleasing in design and very efficient when it comes to performance. The screen is bright with beautiful color saturated screen, and seems to have less glare outside when it's sunny. I can actually read the screen in such conditions. This is a big plus for me! It has 16GB of ROM, which is plenty by itself, but pared with the 7GB of frees cloud storage, it's more than enough for me. I really don't know what the fuss is about concerning the number of apps available for Windows Phones. Unless you are some kind of developer or techy person, there are plenty of apps available for this phone (both from MS, Nokia and third party) for the everyday cell phone user, even business user. The game apps seems so much more refined (probably because there are a lot of Xbox games available for this phone) and they run beautifully on this phone. I travel a lot and I'm really looking forward to using this phone on my trips. I have always liked Nokia phones because of the quality build and support. When I started using a smartphone I got away from Nokia phones and started my Android experience. Now that Nokia has chosen to team up with MS to re-enter the smartphone market, I wanted to try their phones again. What a lovely surprise! I'm crazy for the Lumia 900 and look forward to future offerings from Nokia, if and when I get tired of this phone or need to upgrade. I recommend this phone, it's quality at affordable prices. This is by far the best smartphone for the price NON_CONTRACT. You can't compare $199 contracted Galaxy S4 or iPhone 5 because you are stuck with a contract and must pay or companies come after you. I bought when it was $90 but at $100 it still can't be beat. You can't get an iPhone for $100 bucks and Android phones at this price range just plain suck. This baby is a dual core processor with 512mb of ram and it runs smooth. Windows phone might not have as many apps as android and iOS but it has quality apps that would satisfy most user (Pandora, Mobile office, Angry birds, Cut the rope, Netflix, Youtube, Hulu etc.) 97% of the apps on the other stores you would never use anyways.

Best part I think is Nokia Here maps. Better than google maps as you can download maps for just about any country in the world with turn by turn navigation. Offline mode is available without the need for data which is a very big plus for me.

IPS screen has very vivid colors although the resolution is not as high as most high end phones. Not like you can tell the difference on small screens. Screen is 4 inches and I think that is the right size. I have big hands or above average hand size and when I hold it with one hand my thumb can comfortably touch every part of the screen. The Galaxy S4 is about 4.8 inches I think and the Galaxy S3 is slighty smaller than that and my thumb can't touch the full screen without stretching.

Camera is a 5MP snapper with autofocus and such. Basic camera and there are neat apps like PANORAMA, PHOTOBEAMER AND CREATIVE SUITE to edit your photos on the spot. Really nice that I don't have to go to the computer to edit them. Video is shot at 720p while most higher phones shoot at 1080p but its not like most people can tell the difference since both are HD.

This phone will work for AT&T MVNOS like H2o wireless, Red Pocket, Airvoice etc. I am using it with H2o wireless without unlocking. If you unlock then you can also use t mobile.

I use this as my main phone and its great value.

Great stuff:
- top-notch design -- N9 looks amazingly good (to me it looks better than newer iPhones)
- excellent manufacturing quality
- excellent phone component (better than iPhone with AT&T; I'm getting a very good reception in places where iPhone repeatedly failed with AT&T network)
- works with both AT&T and T Mobile
- superior swipe technology (also better than on Nokia Win platform too)
- integrated social networks
- 64 GB
- much more ROM for processing apps (I was running out of ROM on N8 with maybe a dozen or so themes and maybe a dozen of downloaded apps)
- excellently implemented *Dashboard* concept that shows important stuff (appointments, missed phone calls, new emails, etc)

Good stuff:
- solid camera (but N8 was better in that respect and so is newer iPhone)
- easy setup
- easy email setup if you have a GMAIL account(s) (for private Hotmail use N9's Exchange server setup and it works great since MS put the Active sync))
- WiFi has a solid range
- new Linux-based MeeGo OS is pretty good ... even excellent (but I think most people will find iOS and Android either easier or more intuitive)
- over-the-air or cloud sync works very well (and better be since Nokia is shutting down some services and N9 is incompatible with Nokia Suite)
- battery life seems to be OK (about same as an average iPhone with a few power saving enabled and the BT off)

Bad stuff:
- if you are addicted to collecting various apps, N9 is either not for you or it could be a cure for your addiction. While most of the things that a typical user will ever want to use are covered through Nokia Store apps (most of them are free), the Spartan system rules N9 compared to iOS and Android.
- no memory expansion slot (think about 64GB instead of 16GB version when ordering)
- no user-replaceable battery (same as iPhone)
- incompatible with Nokia Suite (use Nokia Link that I found only marginally or minimally useful since it doesn't sync contacts or calendars)
- Nokia killing some nice *convenience* services that makes you wonder if their commitment to Windows Mobile platform is going to leave behind some long-time Nokia fans

Overall a great product from Nokia, even superb if your main thing is to use this device mainly for phone calls, check email, do some light social networking. If you are more into entertainment on your phone then stick with iPhone or an Android-based phone. If you plan to switch phones, make sure your current phone is using the microSIM card or you'll need to get one from your cell provider or use the cutter. If you are switching from a 4G or newer AT&T iPhone than you already have microSIM.

Let's just get this out of the way right now. The Nokia N9 is the most beautiful phone hardware I've ever owned. Not a surprise, as only Nokia and Apple churn out engineering this elegant. I'm somewhat of a phone junky, as I've owned most of the headliner phones from the major OS's: iPhone 4s, galaxy s2, galaxy nexus, Samsung focus, etc.

Hardware: I'm typing this on my iPad, so don't have the typing patience to get too much into this, but wow this hardware is elegant. The curved screen complements the swipe os perfectly, the unibody construction is so well out together, the large generous speaker on the bottom provides plenty of volume, and the clear black screen really does provide such a vivid picture that icons look like they're floating on the screen. But really, you have to hold this phone to appreciate it. The old king of design (iPhone 4s) has been supplemented.

One more thing on hardware, and this was huge for me. The antennae on this phone is pure Nokia, I.e. excellent. Typically, I have difficulty getting signal in many places in San Francisco with AT&T, but the N9 keeps a signal everywhere I go. In the east bay in the hills where my iPhone and nexus routinely would lose signal the N9 has 2-4 bars. It's really amazing.

Software: the Meego experience is simple and effective, and I love it. Before Meego, my favorite OS was WP7. To be clear, when I rate an os, personally I'm excluding available software (ie apps). The reason is I'm thinking of the engineering and the thought out into the OS design, not how many developers chose to support it. I'm not saying apps are not important, far from it, but the number of available apps is so individually relevant (or not so) to the Individual user you have to decide how important that is to you.

Much like wp7, Meego provides most used functionality with the minimal amount of screen interaction. Close an app, slide down. Switch an app, swipe right. Get notifications, swipe left. Minimize an app, swipe up. That's it. Simple, effective, and gorgeous.

The N9 also comes with an incredible amount of connectivity out of the box. Gmail, exchange, Picasa, Dropbox, skype, twitter, Facebook, and more. I especially love how Skype is built in. Make calls and message directly from within the app.

Battery: my only gripe with the phone. With everything enabled (especially gtalk, Skype, and Facebook chat) the battery is done after 12 hours of light usage. Start using the phone and youre down to 8 hours...that's is horrible. When you're NOT logged in to the messaging apps, battery shoots up to 2-3 days of light usage, and 16 hours of heavy, which is brilliant. Im not sure if this imitedto a few vocal N9 users, or if this all phones, but this is my experience.

Summary: if you don't need a lot of external software, but need a heavily reliable phone that does mail, messaging, camera, Skype, music and video brilliantly, it is amazing. If you need more, definitely take a look at the lumia 900. It's not out yet, but supposedly has the same hardware design with a great os as well.

I've had this phone for a little over a week now, and I like it more and more everyday. There was an element of frustration at first...Gmail doesn't seem to want to play nice with Meego. Even some of the workarounds wouldn't help my mail and contacts to sync. Maps would freeze, Drive wouldn't load, and there was a few other hair-pulling frustrations.

So why five stars? Well, most of my frustrations were fixed. Peruse the pages of the Meego forum and you'll find a lot of answers to tech problems. The N9 user community is very helpful. Also, the phone itself makes the tech woes dissipate from utter user-joy: the screen is incredible, a joy to look at. The N9 UI is the most intuitive touch screen experience I have ever used. The indicators on the lock screen are smart. I can't believe more smart phones don't use the same approach to indicators.

I'm using my N9 on T-mobile, and while I seem to have fewer signal bars overall, I have fewer dropped calls. I can even talk on my N9 in my basement, which I couldn't do with my Sprint phone. Whether or not it's because T-mobile has a superior signal, or whether it's because the N9 has a better antenna -- I dunno.

Some have said that the Ovi store has a paltry selection, but I've found everything I need and more. Sure, it's no Google play, but how many light saber and fart apps does a phone need?

Admittedly, the battery is wanting. If you have a bunch of background apps running, it'll be toast in one day or less. But if you tweak your settings, you'll easily get at least two days with moderate usage.

So, it's a phone I recommend. Even with all the baggage of the various tech problems (which are fixable), the poor battery, and the fact that Nokia will quit supporting it after 2014 (might need a new phone by 2015 anyway) it's still worth it. You know you have an awesome phone when the associates at T-mobile and best buy ogle it with "wows" and "where did you get that?" The N9 is like a pretty girl - she's worth fighting for.

Nokia Lumia 521 Deals

Got this phone from T-Mobile yesterday, just switched over from at&t. I was hoping to get the Lumia 925 (I'm a huge fan of windows phones), but it just seems like its taking Nokia forever to release them. Since I can no longer use my old lumia900 due to a broken screen, I needed something immediately. Still planning on getting the 925 once it comes out, I decided to go with the cheapest phone with 4g capacity.
After a day of use, I really started fall in love with it.
Things I really liked about it: lumia 521 is pretty light in my opinion. It feels a lot lighter than my old 900. The touch screen is super sensitive. In the manual, it says it works with gloves on. I tried, and it works great. The camera is also decent. I mean, its only 5mp, so I didn't expected much. But the noise in the picture is very low even with high ISO. it comes with a panorama app which i liked a lot. The time between shots are still a bit long, but it has this smartphoto app that takes four consecutive shots, which helped to solve the problem to a certain degree. It has wifi calling. I actually had never used this function on any other phones before, I'm not sure if lumia 900 has it, so I don't have anything to compare the quality of wifi calling with. It has removable batteries. The back cover is not the easiest thing to take off, but you know you can if you really need to. I really like the feel of the back cover as well.
But there are a few things I don't like. Nokia really could have place the power button at a different place or at least change the side design. With the curve on the side, I always feel the phone is slipping out of my hand when I press the power button. There's no flash and no front camera. It does not have 4g LTE, but even the iphone 4s doesn't, so I think this is alright. And plus, 4G is really not slow at all.
So bottom line is, you know you are not getting the most advanced phone in the world when you bought it, and you know this isn't something that's gonna blow your friends' mind when they see it. But if you on a budget, or need a temporary phone that is not gonna put you too far behind all the mobile technologies, nothing beats lumia 521.
I'm paying $85 a month right now for 2 lines. $50(My line)+ $30(My girlfriend's line) + $5 (the monthly installment for lumia 521). This is about half of what I was paying last month with at&t.

I have a 2 year contract with Tmobile and my phone broke, but i dont have an upgrade, so I bought this, and my sim card from the old phone didnt fit, so i put the new one that came with the Nokia in and it didnt have any of my contract info, so if you have a contract, just call your provider, tell them you bought this phone and need to register it under your number, you just tell them your number then the number of the new sim card (its on the bottom of the box and its on the card the sim card comes with) you just tell them the number and then wait 10-15 minutes reset the phone and you should start recieving texts, calls, and have internet access

I'm one of those legacy Tmo customers stuck in a contract, the only problem is that I get no reception at work, so rather than pay the $200 cancellation fee and go to a more expensive carrier I bought the 521 to use the wifi calling app. After some working things out I finally got it to work and now am pleased with the phone.

Here are the steps I had to take:
1. Enable wifi calling for my account on tmobile.com
2. Update my 911 location in my account settings on tmobile.com.

After those two steps I turned the App on, switched to "wifi calling preferred" and it works like a charm.
